Endoscopic Brow Lift

Wrinkles and frown lines are a frequent sign of aging for all men and women. With age the symptoms of gravity tugging on your skin and muscles become more apparent. Indeed the whole forehead begins to loosen and gives the appearance of being tired, sad, or even angry. To combat this, plastic surgeons have developed a variety of different brow lift techniques that can smooth the forehead and reduce signs of aging.

The endoscopic brow lift is the most revolutionary of all cosmetic procedures, enabling consistent, lasting and dramatic results. This procedure is particularly useful in the case of younger patients where it is not necessary to remove excess skin.

Since the endoscopic brow lift can reduce frown lines between the eyes with great effect, the procedure is often carried out in conjunction with surgery to the upper eyelid, in this way achieving the very best results.

The traditional brow lift procedure requires large incisions hidden in the hairline, however endoscopic brow lift surgery avoids the need for such incisions by employing small probes with cameras at the tip that permit the surgeon to see inside the body. So by using this advanced technique, an endoscopic brow lift can produce the same results as a traditional lift but with fewer potential complications.

Who is suitable for the endoscopic brow lift operation?

The endoscopic brow lift is most frequently carried out for those in the 40-60 age group, so as to minimize the visible effects of aging. However, the procedure can also help people of any age who have developed furrows or frown lines due to stress or muscular activity. Those with inherited conditions, such as a low and heavy brow or having furrowed lines above the nose can achieve a more alert and refreshed look with this procedure. The endoscopic brow lift operation is also ideal for patients with insufficient hair to cover up the large incisions created in the traditional brow lift.

What to consider at this stage

Before you see the surgeon, it is important to consider exactly what you are trying to achieve from your surgery.

Those who smoke are advised to stop smoking at least two weeks before their surgery. Because smoking reduces the blood supply to the thin skin flaps created by the surgeon, stopping smoking at this time will assist healing and reduce the risk of infection.

The procedure for endoscopic brow lift surgery

During the actual procedure, four or five incisions about an inch long are made around the hairline. The endoscope is then inserted into one of these incisions, enabling the surgeon to see what is happening under the skin using a viewing screen.

Another probe with a cutting or grabbing tool is then inserted to permit the procedure to take place. By watching what is actually taking place on the screen, the surgeon is then able to lift the forehead skin, muscles, and underlying tissues. He is even able to lift the eyebrows by employing sutures beneath the skin.

Once the adjustments are complete, the probes are removed and the incisions sealed. The incisions use in the endoscopic procedure are smaller, less inclined to infection, and heal faster than those needed in the traditional brow lift procedure.

Following the operation

As is typical with all surgery, you can expect to feel bruised and sore. A bandage is applied to the forehead for two days to reduce swelling. Sutures are removed after one week. You may also be asked to keep your head elevated for a few days to help the swelling decrease.

Risks & Complications

Cosmetic surgery is amongst the safest of medical procedures. However, patients must understand and accept that no surgical procedure is totally without risk. For further information concerning the risks and complications associated with Endoscopic Brow Lift, please refer to Risks and Complications of Brow Lift.

At Consultation, your surgeon will discuss these risks with you.

How long will the results of your brow lift surgery last?

Patients are regularly unaware how much their sagging forehead contributed to the signs of aging. At least not until they see how much younger and more rested they appear after the lift. Although a brow lift does not stop the clock, it can minimize the appearance of aging for years.

You will always look younger than you otherwise would, but over the years your face will continue to age. However, there are many non-surgical procedures which will help to prolong the result of a brow lift. For further information please visit the Non-Surgical section of our website.
