Skin Revitalisation

As we age, the quality of our skin changes, collagen and elastin fibres degrade and our cells become less efficient at producing a substance called Hyaluronic acid (Hyaluronan is responsible for maintaining hydration). This results in the skin becoming dry and rough in texture, with less elasticity. Part of this is due to the biological clock but lifestyle factors such as sun exposure, smoking and drinking also play a part in the quality of the skin.

More than half of the hyaluronic acid concentration in the body is found in the dermis (middle layer) of the skin. The elastic properties of hyaluronic acid offer resistance to compression, so that the skin protects underlying structures from damage. At the same time, hyaluronic acid allows the collagen fibres to move easily through the interstitial substance.

What is Skin Revitalisation?

Skin revitalisation helps to rehydrate the skin by injecting tiny amounts of hyaluronic acid underneath the skin with an extra fine needle. At Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group we use Restylane Vital™ and Restylane Vital Light™ injector pen which are injectable forms of hyaluronic acid specially formulated for providing deep dermal hydration.

Restylane Vital is perfect for tackling photo-damaged skin in exposed areas such as the cheeks, hands or back.

Restylane Vital Light injector pen is a less concentrated formula and is specifically designed to treat less photo damaged (sun damaged) skin and sensitive skin areas such as: crow’s feet around the eyes, peri-oral area around the top lip, the backs of hands where skin is thinner, the neck and the décolletage where skin is thinner

These revitalising injections can retain 500 times their own volume in water, plump out the skin and intensively hydrate it from within. This hydrating property not only helps the skin to look and feel firmer, but also aids in the transport of essential nutrients from the bloodstream to the skin cells. It is targeted at a broad range of treatment areas, helping to hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Skin Revitalisation treatment

Your practitioner will use a very fine needle to place small quantities of either Restylane Vital or Restylane Vital Light immediately beneath the surface of the skin. The treatment generally takes 30 minutes, depending on the area treated and is generally not painful. If you find it uncomfortable, anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment. Most people find that they can return to work immediately after this procedure.

How soon will I see the results and how long do the effect lasts?

Visible improvements to the skin can be seen after an initial course of 3 treatments each, approximately 2-4 weeks apart, resulting in healthy skin with a beautiful glow. The Treatment benefits generally last for around 9 months and can be maintained by repeat a course of treatment once or twice a year.

Skin revitalisation can also be combined with other treatments including but not limited to Line & Wrinkle Smoothing or Dermal Fillers.

Risks & Complications

Possible risks and complications associated with this treatment are common injection-related reactions. These include transient redness, swelling, discomfort, itching, bruising or discolouration at the injection site. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin.
